Jupiter Magick: Pre-gaming with Shadow Work

It’s 3am and I’m supposed to be writing a paper, which I’ve titled “Angels, Demons, and Ketamine.”

It’s for Carl Abrahamsson and Vanessa Sinclair’s occult-anthropology journal Fenris Wolf. Last month, Vanessa emailed me and asked me if I’d like to contribute and I was like “of course!”

Back in August 2023, I was on their podcast talking about the occult and ketamine, and since then, I’ve become quite a fan of Carl and Vanessa’s work. I even wrote a blurb for Carl’s latest book, “Meetings with Remarkable Magicians: Life in the Occult Underground” which is an autobiography of his time in the nascent Chaos Magick occulture of the 1990s onward (including hanging out with the late and great Genesis P-Orridge).

What a fun project, right? How many people get to write about their hyperfixations and are offered to get published in an anthology? Surely, I’m now putting in final touches on this paper as we speak…

Can you guess how much I’ve written?
For this paper due TOMORROW?

Hint: 😰😰😰

Maybe it’s an ADHD-thing to be a reckless procrastinator. But I’m sooooo over this torture — why take a project that is supposed to be fun (writing about the intersection of the occult and psychedelics), and make myself unnecessarily sick with overwhelm and anxiety (why didn’t I start writing a month ago)? I’ve spent all my life living on the edge of panicked deadlines and it’s getting old.

No one would guess, based on my cool exterior, but right now, I’m suppressing heart palpitations and a massive stress headache.

Situations like this are ripe for shadow work, because I will proclaim I want one thing, but my behavior and thus my results lead to the opposite.

And so, why not mix procrastination AND shadow work by putting together Jupiterian ritual. This is a great way to fool myself “well, at least I’m productively procrastinating, so is it even truly procrastination???” ← flawless logic

There’s a lot of magick systems that I could turn to, but the reason I mention Jupiter is because I’m already starting 2 weeks of Jupiter work anyways, and coincidentally, my Jupiter magick is totally based on shadow work.

In fact, I just spent this past Sunday teaching a free class on how I’ve been going even deeper in the shadow work.

So of course, I gotta put my money where my mouth is.

This newsletter is just a few weeks old, but I’ve already been re-analyzing the 20+ Shem Angel rituals I did back in April 2024. There’s nothing quite like being accountable to a community to consistently do magick ritual, so…why not document my 2 week working with Jupiter here?
