In the month of April 2024, I did 20+ Shem Angel rituals.

Shem Angel magick isn’t something sane people want to do daily. Angels are psychotic assholes, and in previous years, I’ve done angel magick maybe once a year and then suffered through the aftermath for months afterwar

ds. Unlike demons, who I’ve always described as the friendly cashier at Trader Joe’s, angels felt like Japanese yakuza.

Angel magick is best for people who have stable but unfulfilling lives - you need the baseline stability because angels will burn down your house so you can’t be a total fuck up who has absolutely no place to go. But you also need to accept that things will go hard. Angels will serve you Wagyu steak, but they’ll cut through it (and the priceless dinner plate and antique dining room table) with a bodacious chainsaw.

In retrospect, I was desperate - I mean, who does an entire month of angel magick AND goes to an ayahuasca retreat? I felt shame at my life dissatisfaction, because I had technically “made it.” I lived a financially comfortable life, complete with an apartment in a high-ride building with a doorman. In the end of 2023, I released a pdf ‘zine of 72 Goetic Demons and it was a runaway success. I ordered Grubhub every day because I was too lazy to load my brand new dishwasher.

Yet I felt like I was playing a game that I no longer found interesting, simply because it was comfortable. And Angel magick is ideal to upgrade your game.

And I’m not just talking about the game of the human, with our money and career and status and survival drive. But we’ll get to the nuances in later posts.

Interesting note: almost from the get go, the angel rituals didn’t stay within their lane and went extra. I’ve never been super “close” to the archetypes of angels, so this was the first time I’d ever spontaneously connected.
